A-line

Fitted bodice with the skirt tapering from the waist to the floor creating an A-shape.

Modified A-line (Fit & Flare)

Bodice fitted to slightly hug your body to the hip and then gently tapers to the floor.

Suits body shapes:
Triangle (Pear), Rectangle, Inverted Triangle, Hourglass, Round (Apple)

Mermaid

Fitted and curve hugging, normally to the knee, and flares out at the bottom.

Trumpet

A more wearable mermaid.  Tight fitting to the hip and then flares out.

Suits body shapes:
Triangle (Pear), Hourglass

Princess / Ballgown

Fitted to the waist with a large full skirt, usually with many petticoats!

Suits body shapes:
Triangle (Pear), Rectangle, Inverted Triangle, Hourglass

Sheath / Column

A simple shape which is straight and column like through the length of the dress.  Perfect for those looking for something form fitting but not skintight!

Suits body shapes:
Hourglass, Rectangle

Tea-length

Fitted bodice with the skirt tapering from the waist to mid calf.  Some shorter length dresses come to just below the knee.

Suits body shapes:
Triangle (Pear), Rectangle, Inverted Triangle, Hourglass, Round (Apple)

A quick guide to body shape

Triangle (Pear) – Broader hips than shoulders

Rectangle – Straight up and down proportions with little waist definition

Inverted Triangle – Broad shoulders and small hips

Hourglass – Full bust and full hips with waist definition

Round (Apple) – Full bust and full hips without waist definition
